Business Excellence

Tata International operating in the international arena meets the exacting quality standards of its customers in terms of both products and services. At our leather manufacturing facility at Dewas in Central India, all our units are ISO 9001 certified from RWTUV CERT of Germany. This leather complex, the largest in Asia and the third largest in the world for goat skin, was the first in the Asian leather industry to attain ISO 9001 certification.

As responsible corporate citizens, sensitive to the environment we work in, we have taken a lot of initiatives on the environment protection front. Our world class effluent treatment plant is the only one of its kind in the country. Our success in maintaining air quality, ensuring ground water quality, our steps towards water and energy conservation and in keeping liquid and solid waste pollution under check has enabled us to win ISO 14001 certification in 2002.

Today, focus on customer and supply chain has become critical to our business. We have had to streamline these areas to retain our competitive edge. The manner in which we, as an organization, build systems and processes to deal with change is a key factor for long-term success and stakeholder value enhancement. Though we have prided ourselves on our leather tannery being the only tannery in India to get the ISO certification, such isolated efforts are no longer enough for a diverse organization like Tata International. A synergy was needed to drive business excellence across the organization and for the company to become globally competitive. With this view we began our journey towards business excellence in 1998 when we made our commitment to streamlining our processes in line with the Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM) which is based on the Malcolm Baldridge Quality Awards.

The TBEM is an exhaustive model with emphasis on internalizing process orientation in the organization. Thereafter, it tracks and measures performance and identifies opportunities for improvement through evaluation and improvement. It has enabled us to ask the right questions regarding our approaches and processes on all aspects of our business.

Moreover, Tata International has diverse operations and is present in locations worldwide. TBEM provides the common thread that binds the company together.

We are confident of success in our journey towards Excellence for Leadership.
